If you're looking for an inexpensive way to get into home theater, consider an A/V receiver and speaker package, such as JVC's DS-TP120. This complete home theater system includes a Dolby Pro Logic/Dolby Digital (AC-3) compatible receiver as well as 5 full range satellite speakers and an 8", 50 watt powered subwoofer. Each of the five satellite speakers uses a single 3-inch driver to cover the critical midrange and high frequencies. A separate powered subwoofer with a built-in 50-watt amplifier does a reasonable job with most of the bass range, except for those really low-frequency "earthquake" tones. The receiver is several notches superior to the speakers. It provides Dolby Pro-Logic decoding, making it ideal for a surround system that will be used primarily for videotapes and TV.
